Lavoya Tywane Neal Jr. was arrested on Monday, March 10, after investigators identified him as the driver who fled from a traffic stop in Salisbury last week and sparked a manhunt, according to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office.
The chase began on March 4 when members of the Joint Community Action Team (JCAT) attempted to stop a black Nissan near Priscilla Street for multiple traffic violations, including running stop signs and reckless driving.
Instead of pulling over, Neal hit the gas.
The vehicle sped through residential streets before losing control while turning onto Delaware Avenue, slamming into a curb and deploying its airbags, police said.
Before officers could reach the car, Neal had already bailed out and taken off toward Price Road.
Inside the disabled vehicle, officers found a woman and an infant, both unharmed; however, authorities noted that while the infant was in a car seat, the seat itself was not secured to the vehicle.
A K9 unit searched the car, leading to the discovery of Neal’s wallet, a cellphone, and more than 1,000 grams of marijuana, investigators said.
Deputies and officers from the Salisbury Police Department set up a perimeter and launched a search effort with K9 teams and Trooper 4, but Neal managed to evade capture.
Police later obtained CDS and traffic-related charges against Neal, who was taken into custody six days later and booked at the Wicomico County Detention Center.
